Managing limits. Excellence comes from knowing how to manage limits. Eataly is an alliance of small-scale producers who have been making the finest foods and beverages in limited quantities for generations. They have joined togheter to offer quality products at sustainable prices.

Let’s start with an unavoidable statement of fact: Eataly, for now, is aimed at the consumers living in the privileged part of the world, that 25% of the global population who we can generally say lives in an era of well-being. Though their choices may be different, this quarter of the world’s inhabitants can decide what to eat and how much to eat.

We believe that eating well helps us live better, not just in terms of the body but also the mind.

We’re also convinced that it would be a good idea to eat less, or rather to eat the right amount. For the most part that means much less than what we normally ingest every day. Plus eating smaller quantities while spending the same allows us to buy better products. But if by better we mean better quality (not to forget variety), the quality must be recognizable.

Recognized quality has a healthy influence on taste and enjoyment, helping us feel better, more satisfied and, in a word, happier. One tool is needed to recognize quality: knowledge.

We don’t think you need to study hard in order to start to notice the quality of food.  The essential requirements are minimal and all of us can have them: to be a little curious, to recognize our body’s natural signals, to know how what we eat and drink was made and where, starting with the essentials. At the beginning it’s enough to have just a basic understanding – building knowledge always starts with the foundations. In turn our growing curiosity will naturally spur us on to improve our level of awareness.

The enjoyment of good food is something passionate and obsessive, something which increasingly drives us to improve our perception levels. Spending time with others who want to follow the same path as us will be very important. Generally people who love good food are pleasant, friendly and above all positive and optimistic.

There is another very important aspect to focus on: cost. Eataly intends to show that products of the finest quality can be found at sustainable prices. By lowering distribution and marketing costs we think that we’re able to offer access to these products even to people who are not particularly well-off.

The first step was identifying producers of the best food and wine who shared certain characteristics which are not commonly found together. We wanted small-scale producers who personally ensure the quality of their products, who have a profound respect for tradition and who want to grow through joining together and managing limits with good sense.

Over two years of research Eataly has brought together 17 small-scale producers of high-quality foods and beverages: water, wine, oil, vinegar, flour, pasta, canned tomatoes, rice, cured meat, cheese, preserved fish and fresh meat. You can learn more about them in the Producers section.
Like us they’re convinced that directly telling you about themselves and how they make their products is a good way of offering you the key to knowledge.
