Since 1993 the San Romano winery has increased quality and production, and now boasts 8.5 hectares of mainly Dolcetto-planted vineyards.

San Romano is a relative newcomer, founded in 1993 by the family of Giulio Napoli. Passionate and committed, they moved from the chaos of the city to the tranquil Dogliani hills that year, having chosen to follow a very different kind of lifestyle.

They immediately began an upgrading of the old vines (around three hectares), salvaging what they could from the semi-abandoned land. Through the 1990s, in addition to completing the restructuring of the old vineyards, they also planted new Dolcetto vines and small plots of Pinot Noir, Barbera and Merlot.

At the start of this century production reached 30,000 bottles a year, a relatively modest volume, but already enough to put the small vinification facility in crisis.
An important new investment was planned in real estate and production technology, with the aim of tripling the winemaking and storage capacity and bringing the total yield to around 90,000 bottles a year.

Further new vineyards were also planted, both of the area’s traditional Dolcetto and also the noble Nebbiolo, the first vintage of which will be 2006/2007.

Today San Romano’s land covers 8.5 hectares of vineyards of which two-thirds are planted with the typical Dolcetto grape.
