The terroir and the vines: synonyms of quality
The Roero is an ancient land of vines and wine, on the left bank of the Tanaro, facing the Langa hills.
Inaccessible rugged hills and loose sandy soil are the basis of the red and white wines of the Roero, different and no less great than those made in the more famous Langa hills. This is the heart of one of Italy’s most renowned wine regions, land of Nebbiolo, Barbera and the other great Piedmontese reds.
Over the last 25 years a few producers have started making a white wine from the native Arneis grape, a small percentage of which was traditionally added to Roero Nebbiolo.
The Roero Arneis’s natural endowments make it extremely pleasant to drink and have brought it great success, attracting attention to the whole Roero zone and winning recognition as the leading white wine of the Alba area. Following this achievement the whole Roero wine industry has been reevaluated, with the 1985 creation of DOCs (controlled denominations of origin) for Roero Arneis and Roero.
